Firefighters Make Quick Work of a Second Story Blaze
Orange, California, August 7, 2024 – At 10:05 PM, Orange City Fire units responded to a reported commercial structure fire at 1300 E. Katella Avenue. Upon arrival, Orange Truck 2 reported finding a two-story residential motel with smoke showing from a second-floor unit. Orange Truck 2 declared an investigative posture to locate the cause of the smoke. Orange Truck 2 quickly transitioned into Fire Attack and declared a working structure fire upon discovering the location and conditions of the fire. Orange Battalion 1 arrived on scene, assumed command, and began the task of assigning fire companies to combat the fire. Fire Attack worked quickly to conduct a primary search for potential victims and extinguish the fire. Additional fire companies worked to evacuate the residents from the first and second floors, secure utilities, and perform salvage operations. Firefighters coordinated efforts quickly extinguished the blaze and contained it in a single unit. The fire was knocked down in 30 minutes.
A total of thirty firefighters were dispatched to the scene. The Orange City Fire Department was supported by Anaheim Fire and Rescue, the Orange County Fire Authority, and the Orange Police Department. One individual was taken to a nearby hospital due to injuries related to smoke and fire, while no injuries among fire personnel were reported. The incident lasted approximately two hours, and the investigation into the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage is ongoing.
