Firefighters swiftly control a fire at an assisted living facility, keeping everyone safe
Orange, California, January 9, 2025 - At 12:21 AM, Orange City Fire units were dispatched to a structure fire at 142 South Prospect Street. Upon arrival, Orange Engine 4 discovered a two-story senior living facility with heavy smoke on the first floor. They began investigating the smoke's source and quickly identified it in the laundry room, prompting them to escalate the situation to a working structure fire due to the significant smoke volume and the urgent need to evacuate residents. Orange Engine 4 took on the role of Fire Attack, focusing on suppression and rescue efforts. Orange Battalion 1 arrived, took command, and called for a second alarm. They assigned Orange Truck 1 to manage ventilation alongside Engine 4, while additional crews were deployed to assist with evacuations and assess conditions on the second floor.
A total of forty fire personnel responded, with support from Anaheim Fire and Rescue, the Orange County Fire Authority, and the Orange Police Department. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among civilians or firefighters. The incident lasted approximately one hour and twenty minutes, and the cause of the fire, along with damage estimates, is currently under investigation. The coordinated efforts of all teams led to the fire being extinguished within twenty-one minutes, successfully containing it to the room of origin while ensuring the safety of the residents.
