Firefighters Make Quick Work of a Single Unit Strip Center Fire

Orange, California, January 8, 2023 – At 9:14 am on January 8, 2023 Orange Fire units responded to a reported commercial structure fire at 900 E. Katella Ave.  Upon arrival, Orange Engine 1 found smoke showing from an end unit of a commercial strip center, initiated an investigation and found active fire.  Orange Battalion 1 arrived on scene, established command, assigned Orange Engine 1 fire attack and upgraded the incident to a working fire. Orange Truck 1 used horizontal positive-pressure ventilation to increase visibility for interior fire crews who were searching for potential victims and extinguishing the fire.  Orange Truck 2 secured the building’s utilities and was assigned to salvage operations.  Firefighters were able to stop the blaze before it could spread to the attic or adjacent rooms and units.  The fire was knocked down in approximately 20 minutes.

Twenty-five fire personnel responded to the incident.  The Orange City Fire Department received assistance from the Orange Police Department, Anaheim Fire and Rescue and the Orange County Fire Authority.  No firefighters or civilian injuries were reported.  The incident lasted 3 hours.  The fire’s cause and damage estimate are under investigation.
