Quick Fire Knockdown on Converted Detached Garage
Orange, California, June 2, 2024 – At 11:34 AM, Orange City Fire units responded to a reported structure fire in the area of South Clark Street. While enroute, Orange Engine 1 reported a heavy smoke header in the area. Orange Battalion 1 upgraded the call to a working fire assignment. Upon arrival, Orange Engine 1 found a fully involved fire from a converted detached garage to the rear of a single-story single-family dwelling at 150 South Parker Street. Orange Engine 1, Rescue 1, and Rescue 6 began fire attack and verification of occupant status. Tenants had self-evacuated from the converted accessory dwelling unit prior to fire personnel arrival. Orange Battalion 1 established command and began assigning the arriving units. Orange Truck 2 was assigned to ventilation. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire within fifteen minutes. The crews’ quick knockdown prevented spread into the south neighboring residence within a few feet of the property.
Approximately 27 fire personnel responded to the incident. The Orange City Fire Department received assistance from, the Orange County Fire Authority, the Orange Police Department, and the American Red Cross. Two adults, five children, and one dog were displaced due to fire and smoke damage in the converted structure. No civilian or fire personnel injuries were reported, and the incident lasted one hour and 19 minutes. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are currently under investigation.
