Firefighters Hold Fire to a Single Unit in Mid-Day Fire

Orange, California, July 3, 2024: At 3:50 PM, Orange City Fire units responded to a reported

structure fire at 1172 North Shattuck Street. Upon arrival, Fire units reported finding heavy smoke and fire showing from a single unit, along with injured residents in the front yard of the residence. Orange Battalion 1 upgraded the assignment to a working structure fire response and assumed the role of Command. Orange Battalion 1 quickly assigned arriving crews to fire attack and patient care. Radio reports from fire attack crews confirmed all residents were out of the structure, and their efforts in the interior of the involved unit were having a positive effect on extinguishing the fire. Firefighters quickly searched the interior of the home, locating four kittens, and one dog, leading all animals to safety. Additional fire crews assessed the attached neighboring apartments for fire and confirmed no other victims.

Thirty fire personnel responded to the incident. The Orange City Fire Department received assistance from Anaheim Fire and Rescue, the Orange County Fire Authority, the Orange Police Department, and Southern California Edison. Orange City Fire Department Rescue Ambulances transported three residents to local hospitals for smoke-related injuries. No fire personnel injuries were reported, and five pets were rescued and returned to their owners. Three residents and two pets were displaced and referred to the Red Cross. The incident lasted approximately two hours and fifteen minutes. The fire cause and damage estimate are under investigation.
