Firefighters Confine Apartment Fire to the Unit of Origin
Orange, California, September 30, 2022 - At 12:08 AM on September 30, 2022, Orange City Fire units responded to a reported residential structure fire at 700 W. La Veta Avenue. Upon arrival, Orange Engine 5 found smoke and fire showing from a second story unit of a large apartment complex. Orange Engine 5’s Captain upgraded the incident to a working fire and began an aggressive, offensive attack on the fire. Orange Battalion 1 arrived on scene and took command of the incident. Orange Light Force 1 was assigned Ventilation Group and coordinated ventilation needs with Fire Attack. Orange County Fire Authority Fire Crews assisted with fire attack, securing utilities and salvage and overhaul operations. Orange City Firefighters successfully confined the fire to the unit of origin, stopped lateral movement of the fire and prevented the fire from spreading throughout the common attic. The fire was knocked down in approximately 15 minutes.
Thirty-five fire personnel responded to the incident. The Orange City Fire Department received assistance from the Orange County Fire Authority and the Orange Police Department. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported. Two adults, three children and two dogs were displaced and received assistance from family. The incident lasted three hours. The fire’s cause and damage estimate are under investigation.
